4th of July festivities

We were excited that Rob was off on Independence Day this year; we were able to spend a quiet day at home all together.

The children and I made 4th of July cookies to decorate. It was a day long activity; we made the batter after breakfast and let it chill until after lunch. Then we rolled, cut, and baked the cookies before nap (they each ate a plain cookie before going to nap.) And finally we made the icing and decorated the cookies after dinner.
waiting not so patiently for the cookies to come out of the oven
Just as we finished up our cookies the fireworks from many neighbor's yards began. Miriam and I watched them from our back porch. Rob watched with Michael (and Peyton) from inside the kitchen. Rebekah did not like the fireworks at all and got as far away from the noise as she was able.
