Zoo Trip

We went to the zoo yesterday and had a wonderful time. Our zoo passes are ending at the end of May =( so we wanted to get one last trip.

Miriam learned how to read the zoo map; she was so excited to tell us where we were headed next.
Rebekah was fascinated by the giraffes. They came right up to the deck, just inches away from us!Michael wanted to squeeze this goat; luckily it was a very friendly goat. The turkey was not so nice. Michael was determined to get his hands in that turkey cage; but I kept fighting him. I was very glad I did when the little boy beside us got his hand pecked-poor thing!

Rebekah desperately wanted to touch that goat, but just could not make herself get any closer.

Then the best part of the day: The Lorikeets!!!

We are so proud of Miriam for holding the Lorikeet. Our girls are both very skittish when it comes to touching animals-though they love to look at them. Usually I go into the Lorikeet cage while the kids watch from the window with Daddy. Last time we went to the zoo Miriam came into the cage with me but did not want to touch the birds. Yesterday everyone came in the Lorikeet cage. Miriam was really excited to hold a bird and did not flinch at all when it was on her hand! Michael wanted to get his hands on the bird, but I'm sure he would have squeezed it, so he had to watch from Mommy's lap. Rebekah stayed close to Daddy's legs, though she really liked looking at the bird.

At the end of the day we went to the bird show and had a hawk flying all around us; he even touched Michael with his wings as he flew by. The kids were thrilled. Last year this time they would have been screaming, crying, and begging to leave. The zoo has really helped them to get used to being near animals. Rebekah got just as close as she could to every cage- she used to stand far away from each exhibit.
